777in: The Thirteenth Card Was Under the Twelfth

Inspect an overlapping hand before diagnosing a missing card. Separate physical count, printed identity and grouping in the review.

The learner sends a hand photograph that seems to contain twelve cards. A corner near the right edge looks unusually thick. Before suggesting a redeal, the tutor asks for the cards to be spread with every corner visible. One card had been almost completely covered by another.

Spread without rewriting the layout

The learner moves the cards just far enough apart to reveal them, preserving their left-to-right order. That keeps the new image comparable with the first. Sorting everything into new groups at the same time would make it harder to identify what the photograph had hidden.

Count physical cards first

There are thirteen separate objects. Two may have the same printed rank and suit if the exercise supplies multiple packs, but they are still two physical cards. Conversely, seeing the same corner twice in a reflection would not create another object. The count needs the actual hand, not only repeated symbols.

Now record the identities and evaluate the proposed grouping. Finding thirteen cards solves the apparent shortage; it does not prove that their arrangement is valid. Keep the inventory question separate from the rules question so one successful check does not stand in for both.

For future pictures, leave enough space around each card to show its identifying corner. A quick recount before sending saves a long exchange based on a misleading image. The tutor’s first response can then address the real hand instead of correcting a missing card that never went missing.
