9M.GAME: Card Nine Was Worth One Point

Separate a practice card’s reference number from its score. A three-task notebook shows how to keep results readable when scoring changes.

“I finished card nine, so put nine in my score.” Naina is referring to a rummy practice folder. Its cards are numbered for finding examples, not for awarding points. The organiser has selected tasks 2, 5 and 9: name a sequence, inspect a set, and explain a complete layout.

Give each number a job

For this session, every correctly explained task earns one practice point. Completing all three earns three points. The task numbers remain 2, 5 and 9 because those are their references in the folder. Adding them to get sixteen would combine labels that were never score values.

The notebook now has separate columns for task ID, completion and points. Naina records which question she answered and the point it earned. A friend can later find task nine without guessing whether nine meant the question number, the score, or the total number of cards shown.

A different scoring session

Next week the group may give the full-layout task two points because they want more detailed explanations. They write that arrangement before starting. Task nine stays task nine. The earlier one-point result is not silently rewritten; it belongs to the earlier session’s scoring instructions.

When Naina shares her progress, she sends the task references beside the explanations she practised. The score is a quick summary, while the references show what she actually did. Keeping both lets a partner suggest the next useful example instead of reacting only to a large number beside her name.
