A Team Total Does Not Decide an Individual Tie
A competition can keep team and individual standings at the same time. They use related results but answer different questions.

Suppose A and B each earn six individual points. A's team totals twenty and B's team totals eighteen. If the individual rule compares only personal points, A and B remain tied. The team totals cannot become an extra tie-breaker unless the competition says so.
Read the ranking rule for the specific table being viewed. A team table may correctly place A's team first while an individual table shows equal positions. That difference is not a calculation error; the two tables measure different objects.
