Bonu1 Game: A Colour Hand Needs More Than Its Highest Card

Compare two same-suit Teen Patti hands by descending ranks, keeping suit colour and numerical totals out of the decision.

Rupa has a colour hand and Sameer has one too. Each contains an ace. Their Bonu1 Game practice pauses here because both keep saying “ace-high” as though the description finishes the comparison.

Two ace-high colours

Rupa shows A♠, J♠, 4♠. Sameer shows A♥, 10♥, 9♥. Neither hand is a sequence. For this exercise, matching category hands are compared by ranks from highest down, and suits do not have a superiority order.

The aces match, so the next comparison is jack against ten. Rupa wins at that step. Sameer's nine does not get to overcome the jack merely because it is much higher than Rupa's four.

Sameer arranges the hands from low to high and accidentally starts with four against nine. Rupa turns the rows around. Sorting is helpful only when the chosen reading direction follows the actual comparison rule.

Stop at the first unequal rank

They read aloud: ace, jack, four; ace, ten, nine. The first unequal rank decides. The third ranks would matter only if the first two ranks matched. Naming that condition prevents “look at all the cards” from becoming a vague instruction.

The red hearts and black spades make an attractive photograph, but their colours do not decide this exercise. A monochrome copy with clear suit symbols would preserve every fact needed for the comparison.

Nor does adding printed values settle the hands. A rule about lexicographic rank order is not a rule about totals. Sameer can obtain a larger sum and still have the lower-ranked hand under the agreed convention.

When the third card decides

On a separate sheet, they compare A♣, J♣, 8♣ with A♦, J♦, 6♦. Now the first two ranks match and eight defeats six. This gives the third-card comparison a genuine job rather than forcing it into the original decision.

Rupa asks Sameer to mark where he stopped on each sheet. One mark is beside the second card, the other beside the third. Stopping at the first relevant difference is more precise than arguing over every visible difference.

The Bonu1 Game exercise leaves a compact routine: identify the category, sort ranks in the correct direction, then compare until they differ. Two hands sharing the words “ace-high colour” can still be different in the part the short label leaves unsaid.
