A natural canasta contains no wild cards. Adding a wild card makes it mixed, even when the original seven natural cards remain together.

A team has seven natural eights on the table. If it legally adds a joker, the resulting eight-card meld is mixed. Its earlier natural status is not preserved as a separate award inside the larger meld.
Classify the completed meld as it stands. The history of how it was built cannot keep it natural after a wild card has joined it.
