Classic Canasta: Buried Discards Cannot Qualify Their Own Pickup
A player must qualify to take the discard pile before using the cards buried below its top card. The pile is not a temporary extension of the hand for this test.

A frozen pile has a queen on top. You hold one natural queen and remember seeing another queen buried in the pile. That buried queen cannot become the second natural queen needed in your hand to authorise the pickup.
Complete the eligibility check with the top card and your current hand. Only after a lawful pickup do the remaining cards become available.
