Classic Canasta: Partners Share One Meld of Each Rank
A partnership in Classic Canasta cannot keep two separate melds of the same rank. Cards added by either partner belong to the team's existing rank group.

One partner has laid down four tens. The other later contributes three natural tens. Together these make a seven-card meld; the second player does not establish a separate personal set of tens.
The opponents may have their own ten meld. The restriction applies within a partnership, so distinguish a shared team area from the other team's cards.
