Dream1: The Clue Arrived after the Answer

A later clue cannot explain an earlier decision unless the character knew it then. Review a story puzzle in event order.

In a detective card story, the character chooses a door on page two. The identifying clue appears only on page three.

An explanation says the character used that clue to choose. The written timeline does not support the explanation.

Keep events in order

Place the events on separate slips: decision, clue discovery and door opening. Keep their original order visible.

Either move the discovery earlier with a story revision, or explain the choice through information already available.

Do not quietly give the character knowledge that only the reader gained later. Reader and character knowledge may differ.

A deliberate flashback could solve the chronology, but it must establish that the earlier discovery actually happened.

Stop before the later clue

Test the revised story by stopping at the decision page. List what the character knows at that moment.

If the choice still lacks support, keep it as a guess rather than disguising it as deduction.

The ending can confirm a lucky guess without turning it into prior knowledge. Outcome and reasoning remain separate.

Ask the reader to explain the choice without looking at the later clue card. If the reason disappears when that card is covered, the explanation depends on information not yet available. The story can be revised by moving the clue earlier, but that is an explicit edit, not a fact to invent during the replay.

Dream1 story puzzles feel fair when the necessary clues arrive in time. The reader should be able to reconstruct the decision from the same information.
