EVER 777: A Fresh Board Was Not the Previous Board
Check whether collected tiles carry into the next round. A reset rule changes the starting inventory even when the previous score remains recorded.
At the end of a tile challenge, Maya has collected three stars. The next round begins, and she reaches for those same stars again.
Their instruction says each round starts with an empty collection. Previous stars belong to the completed round's record, not the new playing area.

Separate the old result from the new round
They move the old stars beside the score note and clear the active space. The result remains recorded while the new state starts empty.
Maya's first new star is therefore one in the current round, even though she has collected four across the whole session.
Label the two counts: this round and session total. The same event can update both without making the numbers interchangeable.
For a contrasting challenge, explicitly allow stars to carry forward. Starting with three would then follow the new rule.

Remembered is not active
The difference lies in persistence, not in whether the player remembers the previous result. Remembering a star does not make it active.
Before every reset, say what is cleared and what is retained. A single word such as “again” may leave both players imagining different starts.
Maya now draws a line between rounds in her notebook. The line separates current resources while keeping the history available.
The EVER 777 exercise asks a simple setup question: what survives into the next round? Answering it prevents yesterday's completed arrangement from silently becoming today's starting advantage.
