Getaway: The Off-Suit Card Does Not Pick Up the Trick
A later trick contains 4♥, Q♥ and then a legal 8♣ from a player with no hearts. Play stops, and the heart queen's player picks up those three cards because Q♥ is highest in the led suit.

Identify the led suit before assigning the pickup. The interrupting card creates the event but does not win the comparison. This matters when choosing a response: a low-looking off-suit card can force a high led-suit card to take the burden.
