Gin Rummy: Deadwood Measures Value, Not the Number of Cards
Unmatched cards are counted by their scoring values. Fewer unmatched cards can still produce a larger deadwood total.

Unmatched cards are counted by their scoring values. Fewer unmatched cards can still produce a larger deadwood total.
One player has an unmatched king, worth ten. Another has an unmatched ace, two and three, worth six altogether. The second player has more unmatched cards but less deadwood.
Write the values before comparing totals. A visual count of loose cards cannot replace the arithmetic that controls knocking and the eventual score.
