Ind Bingo: Three Marks Did Not Make the Required Row
Follow a small bingo card from scattered marks to a completed horizontal row. Count the required pattern, not just the total marks.

Draw a three-by-three card for an Ind Bingo table exercise. Across the top write 4, 12, 19; across the middle 7, 15, 22; across the bottom 9, 18, 25. Every square needs its number called; there is no free centre.
Choose the pattern first
Write the completion rule before starting: the first full horizontal row completes the card. Vertical columns and diagonal lines do not count in this particular exercise. That keeps the discussion tied to a visible, agreed pattern.

The first three calls are 4, 15 and 25. A diagonal appears from top left to bottom right. Rohit announces that he has three marks, and his cousin asks him to point to the completed horizontal row.
There is none. The marks occupy three different rows. The diagonal is real and easy to see, but it is not the pattern required on the instruction card. Recognising a pattern and recognising the qualifying pattern are different tasks.
One number short of the top row
Next comes 12. Rohit's top row now contains marked 4 and 12, with 19 still unmarked. Instead of announcing how many marks he has altogether, he names the one missing number for that row.
The following call is 7. It adds another mark to the card without completing the top row. More marks can increase coverage while leaving a particular required line unfinished. The next useful check is still the same: has 19 been called?

When 19 is announced, the top row becomes complete: 4, 12, 19. Rohit points to those three squares and reads them back. The verification is short because the claim names the actual qualifying line.
Change the rule openly
Now replay the original first three calls with a different instruction allowing diagonals. Under that rule, 4, 15 and 25 would complete a valid line. Change the instruction openly rather than treating one pattern rule as universal.
For a group review, let one person read the calls while another points to the matching squares. Keep a separate call list so that an accidentally marked square can be checked against something other than memory.
The Ind Bingo card leaves Rohit with a practical habit: complete the sentence “I have finished…” by naming the agreed pattern. “Three marks” reports a count; “the top horizontal row” supplies a claim everyone can inspect.
