INR Rummy: One New Card, Three Valid Ways to Finish the Grouping

After drawing 8♥, inspect three possible final arrangements of the same hand. A valid answer need not be the only valid answer.

Write down this thirteen-card INR Rummy puzzle: 3♠, 4♠, 5♠; 10♦, J♦, Q♦, K♦; 2♣, 2♦, 2♥; and 6♥, 7♥, 9♥. The last three hearts are the unfinished part.

The next card is 8♥, bringing the working hand to fourteen. All cards in this example are natural cards. The task is to remove one card and leave thirteen arranged into valid groups, including at least two sequences with a pure sequence.

The first complete arrangement

Your first answer may be to remove 9♥. The remaining hearts are 6♥, 7♥, 8♥. Together with the original three spades, four diamonds and three twos, they make a complete thirteen-card arrangement.

Leela chooses a different discard: 6♥. Her hearts become 7♥, 8♥, 9♥. The other groups stay untouched. Count again: three plus four plus three plus three still gives thirteen, with the required sequences present.

Shorten a different sequence

A third route removes 10♦. The diamond group becomes J♦, Q♦, K♦, while the hearts stay together as 6♥, 7♥, 8♥, 9♥. Alongside the spade sequence and the set of twos, that also forms thirteen validly grouped cards.

Notice what each route changes. The first two shorten the newly completed heart run at opposite ends. The third preserves all four hearts and shortens the older diamond run. You are examining the whole hand rather than fixing one group permanently.

Leela's friend marked only the first answer in his notebook. He now adds the other two instead of treating a different discard as an error. An answer key that lists one solution should not silently claim uniqueness.

Place the three finished arrangements side by side and label the removed card above each. Read the surviving groups aloud. This makes the alternatives easy to compare without having to remember which card disappeared in which version.

Audit each final hand separately

Check the solutions by physically removing the named card before counting. Leaving a discarded card in its old group can make a convincing-looking explanation use fourteen cards. Every solution needs its own final inventory.

Extend the INR Rummy puzzle by investigating K♦ as another proposed discard. Rebuild all groups and justify your conclusion rather than copying the earlier answer. The learning happens in validating each arrangement, not in memorising a single preferred removal.
