Jaiho Rummy: Two Heart Sevens Do Not Fill Two Sequence Positions

Two packs can contain two separate copies of 7♥.

Editorial note: This is a conditional card-rule teaching example, not a verified description of the named platform.

Two packs can contain two separate copies of 7♥. They are different physical cards, but their printed rank and suit are the same. A natural sequence does not gain a new rank merely because another copy exists.

Label the copies before grouping

Call them 7♥-A and 7♥-B. In the collection 6♥, 7♥-A, 7♥-B, 8♥, the occupied ranks are six, seven and eight. There are four cards but only three distinct rank positions. Under a natural-sequence definition requiring consecutive positions without repetition, the whole collection is not a four-card run.

This does not make either seven unusable. They could belong to different valid groups if the rest of the hand and the rules permit it. The error lies in using the extra copy as though it occupied the missing next rank inside one sequence.

An inventory question and a grouping question

First establish that two packs are actually in use. In a single ordinary pack, two natural heart sevens would require an explanation. Then assess how each copy is assigned. Permission for duplicate faces in the deck is not blanket permission for duplicate positions in every group.

For Jaiho Rummy readers, writing the copy labels beside identical faces prevents a common ambiguity. It allows the explanation to say exactly which card moves without pretending that a second seven has become a six, eight or nine.
