Jaiho Spin: The Repeating Block Was Four Symbols Long

Find the next symbol by identifying the complete repeating block and your position within it, rather than copying the most recent pair.

A strip reads star, leaf, star, cup, star, leaf, star, cup. The instruction says the same four-symbol block repeats.

Name the block first: star, leaf, star, cup. The next four symbols must reproduce that block in the same order.

Find the repeating block

Isha predicts another cup because it was the last symbol she saw. She has followed the recent item rather than the repeating structure.

Draw a boundary after each cup. The visible separators make it easier to see where the next block begins with a star.

To find position ten, complete two blocks for eight positions, then count two places into the next. The answer is leaf.

Do not count the first position of the new block as position zero. Write the numbers beneath the symbols if the offset feels confusing.

Now start reading midway through a block. The visible first symbol may be a cup, but the underlying block has not changed.

Explain where the crop begins before predicting from it. A shortened picture can hide the phase of a repeating strip.

Without the supplied repeat rule, many continuations could fit a finite strip. Here the rule, rather than guesswork, determines the extension.

Isha finishes by building one full block before extending the strip. Once its length and order are clear, distant positions become manageable.
