Follow a thirteen-card Rummy arrangement with twelve cards in valid groups and one unassigned king. See why complete coverage is a separate check.

On the mat are four lovely groups and one card at the edge. Reena checks the groups but keeps overlooking the lonely K♠.

For this sorting exercise, the task is to assign every displayed card to a valid group. Counting only the finished groups does not satisfy that instruction.

Twelve cards inside the groups

The centre contains 3♣, 4♣, 5♣; 7♥, 8♥, 9♥; 2♣, 2♦, 2♥; and Q♣, Q♦, Q♥. That accounts for twelve cards.

Add the isolated K♠ and the display has thirteen. The four complete groups do not account for all thirteen cards.

Reena creates a labelled “unassigned” space. Moving the king there changes no rule; it makes the unfinished part harder to ignore.

A friend proposes calling the twelve-card arrangement complete. Reena asks which valid group includes the thirteenth card. The question exposes the omission immediately.

Keep the thirteenth card visible

Do not solve this by silently dropping the king from the photograph. The task concerns the actual displayed inventory, not a cropped subset.

For a separate completed example, replace K♠ with Q♠. The four queens now form a valid four-suit set alongside the other groups.

Label that replacement openly; it is a different inventory. Comparing the two displays shows exactly which outstanding card prevented coverage.

Reena adds one final question to her routine: “Where is every card?” Valid groups and complete coverage are two checks worth keeping separate.
