Literature: Eight Sets, Not Four Complete Suits
The forty-eight-card Literature pack removes the eights. Each suit becomes two six-card groups: 2–7 and 9–A. Holding a low heart does not authorise asking for a high heart.

Arrange the hand by half-suits rather than merely by colour or suit. This makes legal questions easier to identify and reduces accidental requests across the split. The missing eight is a boundary in the game's structure, not a gap that a player needs to fill.
