Love Rummy: Moving a Joker Means Rechecking the Group It Leaves

A joker can support more than one proposed arrangement, but one physical joker cannot remain assigned to two groups in the same final hand.

Editorial note: This is a conditional card-rule teaching example, not a verified description of the named platform.

A joker can support more than one proposed arrangement, but one physical joker cannot remain assigned to two groups in the same final hand.

Remove the old assignment first

In a teaching hand, place 4♥, 5♥ and a joker together, with the joker representing 6♥. Before submission, move that joker into another proposed group. The original group now contains only 4♥ and 5♥. Its earlier explanation as 4-5-6 is no longer a description of the current cards.

The destination group needs checking too. The joker's new assigned identity must fit that group's conditions. The fact that its previous use was valid does not establish the new use, or preserve the old group's validity.

Use snapshots rather than overlapping plans

Keep an earlier arrangement and a revised arrangement as separate snapshots. Do not draw two circles through the same joker and count both circles as completed groups. After the move, review the whole hand's card allocation and required groups again.

This Love Rummy topic concerns editing a proposed hand. It does not authorise dismantling a formally locked or publicly submitted meld. That permission belongs to the selected variant. The central bookkeeping rule is simpler: changing a joker's role removes the old role unless the rules explicitly describe some different mechanism. A revised hand must stand on its present cards, not on the memory of an earlier arrangement.
