Love Rummy: The Hand Was Complete Before the Extra Tidying
A neat-looking change breaks a valid thirteen-card arrangement. Follow one eight from its sequence into a set and inspect the gap it leaves behind.

“All four eights should sit together,” says Pooja, moving one card across the table. Her brother stops her before she gathers the hand. In the Love Rummy story, the arrangement had already worked; the extra tidying created the problem.
The complete hand before the move
Before the move, the groups are 7♥, 8♥, 9♥, 10♥; 8♣, 8♦, 8♠; 2♣, 3♣, 4♣; and J♥, J♦, J♣. The sizes are four, three, three and three, totalling thirteen.

Under the two-sequence, one-pure-sequence grouping condition, this hand is complete. Both sequences use natural cards, and the two sets contain equal ranks with different suits. The eights are allowed to serve different groups.
Pooja moves 8♥ into the set of eights, making 8♣, 8♦, 8♠, 8♥. That set is valid. Her mistake is concluding that the entire hand remains valid because the group receiving the card has improved in size.
Inspect the group that lost a card
Look at the group that lost the card: 7♥, 9♥, 10♥. The eight is missing between seven and nine. Those three hearts no longer form a consecutive sequence, and they are not a same-rank set.
The total is still thirteen. No card was lost or counted twice; it merely changed groups. Counting the hand cannot detect this error because the failed condition concerns the internal order of one group.

Her brother asks Pooja to inspect both ends of the move. What became valid at the destination? What remained at the source? A change between groups has two consequences, even when only one physical card travels.
Restore and explain
They restore 8♥ to the heart sequence and leave the other three eights together. The original grouping returns. Pooja draws a small arrow between her before-and-after sketches so the exact cause of the gap stays visible.
For the next practice hand, try proposing a rearrangement before carrying it out. Describe what each affected group will contain afterwards. This is more informative than saying the new arrangement will look tidier.
The Love Rummy table is quiet again, and Pooja keeps her four eights apart. A complete hand does not require every equal rank to be neighbours. It requires every card to have a valid place in the final grouping.
