MBM Bet: What Does a Pause Actually Freeze?

A motionless card display does not prove that the game clock has stopped.

Editorial note: This is a conditional card-rule teaching example, not a verified description of the named platform.

A motionless card display does not prove that the game clock has stopped. The word “pause” needs an object: the animation, the input controls, the timer or the entire hand.

Compare two clearly defined cases

In the first teaching case, a pause freezes the display animation but the turn countdown continues. In the second, a formally accepted pause suspends both the countdown and new actions. The screens might look equally still while the consequences differ.

A local overlay can obscure what is happening without changing the underlying hand. Conversely, a formal pause might leave some explanatory animation visible while preventing rule actions. Appearance alone is not the definition.

Keep the resumption state

Before and after the pause, record the remaining time, current actor and last accepted action. If the rules suspend the countdown, compare the time at suspension with the time restored. If they do not, elapsed time may still matter even though nothing moved visually.

An MBM Bet rules explanation should not promise that closing a panel, leaving a screen or seeing a pause icon stops a live hand. The relevant question is which event the mode recognises as a pause and which parts of the state it freezes. Once those are explicit, the review can distinguish a timing problem from a display that merely looked inactive.
