MMY: What Belongs in a Game Notebook?

Turn a crowded game notebook into a usable record by separating direct observations, unanswered questions and checked explanations.

Mehul's notebook is full of answers, but he cannot remember which ones were checked. He begins a new page with three headings: observed, asked, confirmed.

Under observed, he writes only the displayed cards and their order. This preserves the original situation before explanations change his memory of it.

Record the precise question

Under asked, he records the exact doubt: whether the group qualifies as a sequence under the version being played.

Under confirmed, he adds the answer only after checking the relevant rule and the full group. A confident comment from the table stays attributed as a comment until verified.

He keeps a small reference beside the answer so he can find the explanation again. A remembered conclusion without its conditions is easy to misapply.

When two people disagree, he records their different assumptions. One may be using another variant rather than making a counting mistake.

A later correction receives a date and a reason. The old entry remains readable, showing which misunderstanding was resolved.

For sharing in the group chat, Mehul sends the question and relevant conclusion together. He leaves unrelated personal notes out of the message.

At the week's end, the unanswered column becomes his next reading list. He no longer needs to invent a broad topic just to fill another page.

A useful MMY reading notebook is not the one with the most copied rules. It is the one that lets you trace a particular answer back to a particular question and check.
