NB9: A Larger Worksheet Did Not Change the Rule

Enlarge a card-learning layout without changing its instructions. Distinguish extra writing space from an extra card required in a group.

The tutor enlarges a worksheet so the card symbols are easier to see. A group that previously occupied three printed boxes now sits inside a much wider outline. A learner starts looking for another card to fill the space. The page has changed, but the task has not.

Say what the space means

The wider outline leaves room for an explanation beneath the same example. It is not a new requirement to fill every centimetre. The tutor labels the writing area separately so the learner does not treat blank space as a missing card position.

Place the original and enlarged versions together. Their card identities and written conditions should agree. If enlargement has accidentally cropped a suit symbol or separated a condition from its example, fix that before using the sheet. Readability includes the relationship between instructions and cards, not only their size.

A genuinely harder version needs its own instructions. Adding cards or asking for another group changes the exercise. The tutor names that change rather than presenting it as the inevitable result of using a larger page. Learners should be able to tell whether they are reading the same question more clearly or solving a new one.

The revised sheet gives the learner room to point, arrange and explain. Nobody has to invent a rule to account for the layout. This is a useful check when adapting teaching material for a larger screen or a printed handout: preserve meaning while improving visibility.
