Playing the Last Card and Winning Can Be Separate Events
An empty hand may be a winning condition, but some exercises check it only after the whole action resolves. The checkpoint matters when a final card also creates a draw or exchange effect.

Suppose a teaching rule says to resolve the card's effect before checking for an empty hand. A player puts down the last card, then must receive a replacement under that effect. At the checkpoint, the hand is no longer empty.
Under a different rule that ends play immediately on the last legal card, the outcome could differ. Read the finish condition together with the timing clause. The first empty-hand image is not necessarily the settled result.
