Open Rummy discard pickup normally requires immediate use of at least one taken card, not necessarily the deepest.

This differs from several other rummy pickup rules.

The top two ordinary discards are 7♣ and Q♦.

Your team has 4♣–5♣–6♣ open.

Taking both and immediately adding 7♣ can justify the pickup while Q♦ stays in hand.

Consider whether keeping the queen is actually useful before increasing your hand.

Apply Open Rummy discard pickup as a complete move: identify the card being played and every card above the deepest one taken.

Do not lift a buried card while leaving its covering cards behind.
