Saga Slots: A Path with Two Endings

Build a short story game in which the first choice affects what happens next. Check that each branch has a meaningful consequence.

Write a tiny story on three cards: a traveller reaches a station, finds a misplaced parcel and must decide whom to ask first.

One choice leads to the information desk; another leads to a nearby shopkeeper. Give each branch a different clue rather than the same answer in different words.

Let the branches lead somewhere different

At the desk, the traveller learns the platform number. At the shop, the traveller learns the owner's description. Each clue supports a different next action.

Ask a reader to choose without seeing both continuation cards. The selected route should reveal only the information earned along that route.

Keep the unused card aside. Knowing the other route as an author does not mean the character has learned its clue.

If both branches later meet, explain how the missing information is obtained. Otherwise the ending may depend on something the traveller never discovered.

Read the whole chosen path

Read the chosen path aloud as a complete story. A jump in knowledge is often easier to hear than to notice while staring at the branching diagram.

Invite a friend to invent a third clue that changes a decision. A new location alone adds scenery; a useful clue changes what can happen next.

The exercise works with handwritten cards and an ordinary notebook. Short passages keep attention on cause and consequence rather than elaborate decoration.

Finish by asking which decision produced each ending. A satisfying branching puzzle lets the player trace the ending back to a choice that actually mattered.
