SlotsWinner: The Last Move Looked Bigger; the Scorebook Told Another Story

Reconstruct a three-round points puzzle from two incomplete score notes. The final move and the final total answer different questions.

The group remembers the finish perfectly: Sana adds eight points, while Mohit adds two. Someone captions the photograph, “Sana takes it.” In the SlotsWinner scorebook puzzle, that photograph shows the final addition, not the totals that came before it.

Recover the missing rounds

Their table challenge lasts three rounds, with every round's points added to a running total. There are no multipliers or deductions. A note beside the board shows Sana scoring three in round one and four in round two.

Mohit's early scores appear on a different scrap: seven, then eight. Bring both scraps together before comparing the finish. After two rounds, Sana has seven points and Mohit has fifteen.

The last additions produce fifteen for Sana and seventeen for Mohit. Sana has the stronger final round; Mohit has the higher final total. Both statements can be true, and neither needs the other to be erased.

Track both sides of the gap

The interesting moment is the changing gap. Before the last round, Sana trails by eight. She gains six relative to Mohit in that round because eight minus two is six. The gap therefore falls from eight to two.

An excited spectator subtracts Sana's eight directly from the old gap and declares a tie. That overlooks the two points Mohit adds at the same time. A changing comparison must account for movement on both sides.

Could Sana have drawn level with her eight-point finish? Yes, if Mohit had added zero. That is a different ending, not a correction to the recorded one. Keep the actual score and the alternative calculation in separate lines.

For a useful notebook layout, give each player a column and every round a row. Put running totals beside the additions. This lets a reader check either the individual round or the whole match without guessing which number is displayed.

Give the comeback an accurate caption

Sana changes the photo caption herself: “Best final round; two points short overall.” It preserves the comeback and accurately describes the result. The new caption tells a better story because the size of the comeback is now visible.

Try the SlotsWinner puzzle with another ending: Sana adds ten and Mohit adds two. Calculate the new totals before naming a result. This time the extra two points close the remaining gap, giving both seventeen.
