Spades: Cutting a Trick Does Not Force the Next Player to Overtrump
Basic Spades requires following the led suit when possible. It does not generally require beating the current trump when unable to follow.

A diamond is led and another player cuts with 8♠. The next player has no diamonds but holds both 9♠ and a club. Under these basic rules, that player may discard the club rather than spend the higher trump.
Do not add an overtrumping requirement from a different game. A legal response and a winning response are not the same requirement.
