Spades: Missing by One Still Fails the Whole Bid
A failed ordinary bid loses ten times the bid, not merely ten times the shortfall.

A failed ordinary bid loses ten times the bid, not merely ten times the shortfall.
The team promises six tricks and wins five. The ordinary contract score is minus sixty. It is not minus ten for the single missing trick, nor fifty for the tricks actually won.
The number bid sets the contract's value. Count the tricks first to decide success or failure, then apply the correct scoring branch instead of combining parts of both.
