In the basic rules, a zero bid declares Nil. It is not a neutral way to avoid making a prediction.

Priya bids zero and then wins a trick. Her Nil condition has failed even if her partner takes enough tricks for the partner's ordinary bid. The two scoring components must be considered separately.
Call the declaration by its full meaning. Recording only a zero can hide the special requirement that the player personally take no tricks.
