Top Rummy: The Card That Was No Longer in the Practice Pack
A controlled two-pack exercise counts known removed copies of a target card before describing what remains possible in the unrecycled stock.
A worksheet asks which card could complete 6♥, 8♥ as a natural three-card sequence. Tara correctly names 7♥. The Top Rummy exercise then asks a different question: is a copy of that card still available in the practice stock?
Count the removed copies
The setup uses exactly two standard packs and no wild substitutes. Both copies of 7♥ have been placed face up in a removed-card tray. The tray will not be returned or recycled during this exercise.

There are therefore no heart sevens remaining in the stock. Naming the structurally useful card did not establish that it could still be drawn from this particular source.
Tara counts the two visible copies against the original two-pack inventory. She marks each copy once on the sheet and confirms that both are in the removed-card tray. Her conclusion comes from those physical cards and the stated pack count.
The conclusion has conditions
The conclusion depends on the stated setup. If the pack count were unknown, the removed cards unverified or recycling allowed later, the same certainty would not follow. Each of those changes would need a new inventory check.
Nor does this establish the best action for a complete rummy hand. Other cards and alternative arrangements have not been supplied. It only eliminates one proposed stock draw under the controlled conditions.

Tara writes “needed for this proposed run” and “available from this stock” as separate labels. A card can satisfy the first description while failing the second. That is the distinction the worksheet is designed to reveal.
Possible is still not certain
For a new exercise, leave only one 7♥ in the removed tray and specify that the other is among the stock cards. Availability is restored, but drawing it next is not guaranteed. Possible and certain remain different claims.
The group records any card movement between stock and tray before continuing. Once the inventory changes, an old count may no longer describe the current state. A careful note includes its time as well as its card identities.
The Top Rummy lesson is to count actual copies rather than imagined opportunities. First identify what would help the proposed group. Then check whether the stated source can supply it. Those questions belong together, but one does not answer the other.
