WW9 Game: Do Two Reversed Names Make a New Pair?
AB and BA may name the same pair, but different roles can make order matter. Decide what is being counted before listing combinations.

“I found six pairs,” says Kiran. Her list for Asha, Bala and Chetan reads AB, BA, AC, CA, BC, CB.
“Are there different roles?” asks her friend. For a simple two-person team, AB and BA contain the same people.

Remove duplicate pairings
Cross out the repeated versions. The three teams are AB, AC and BC. The order of writing their names has not created another team.
Now assign two distinct roles: caller and responder. AB means Asha calls and Bala responds; BA reverses those jobs.
Under the role-based task, all six entries matter. The people may be the same while the assignment is different.
Kiran writes the role labels above her columns. A bare pair of initials had hidden whether order was part of the question.

Extend the list carefully
Try four people for the team version. Pair the first with three others, the second with the two not already counted, then the third with the fourth.
That produces six two-person teams. Listing them systematically prevents both omissions and reversed duplicates.
For a game evening, decide whether you need teams or turn assignments before preparing the sheet. The counts answer different planning questions.
Kiran keeps both original lists, now correctly labelled. The useful lesson is not “six was wrong”; it is that the meaning of a pair determines whether order counts.
