YY7: A Tie-Break Needs the Tied Players
A tie at the top concerns the tied players. Keep the original scores visible when deciding who enters the tie-break.

A quiz finishes with Asha on ten, Bala on ten and Chetan on eight. The top tie concerns only Asha and Bala.
Their agreed extra question separates tied leaders. Chetan's original result remains recorded while the two leaders take that question.
Apply the top-place tie-break
If Bala answers and Asha does not, Bala takes the higher place under that tie-break rule.

The extra answer is not automatically added to everyone's original total. Follow the stated purpose of the tie-break.
Write the final ranking beside the unchanged first-round scores and the separate tie-break outcome.
If the extra question also ties, use the next agreed condition. Do not invent a preferred rule after hearing the answers.
Agree what happens next
For an informal session with no further rule, a shared place may be the clearest record. Agree before proceeding.

A friend can join a later open challenge, but that is separate from resolving the original leaders' tie.
The result sheet should show why the tied scores led to different final places. Readers need the second-stage information.
The scorekeeper keeps the original totals above the tie-break record. A later reader can then distinguish why two players entered the extra question and how their order was resolved. Without that separation, the tie-break result may look like an unexplained change to the points earned in the main quiz.
The YY7 example keeps score, eligibility and ranking distinct. A tie-break is a specific operation on a specific tied group.
